Golden Hill Candles was started by Hannah Beach in 2021. The inspiration grew from a lifelong relationship with beeswax, love of the natural world and working with her hands. Whether she was sculpting with beeswax in school, lighting the candles at the table for a family dinner, decorating for holidays or making candles for friends and family, beeswax has always been in Hannah’s life in some form or another. In college she studied environmental studies and studio art and was focused on a career in education. As her path evolved she found herself drawn more and more to the arts and working with her hands and natural materials. It became clear when it was time to make a change and deepen this connection and Golden Hill Candles was established.

Our Commitment to Quality and Sustainability

The work starts with setting the intention. The goal at Golden Hill Candles is to produce high quality pure beeswax candles while keeping any impact on the earth as minimal as possible.

We source as much as we can locally from small businesses. All of our wax comes from northern Vermont beekeepers who are committed to the health of the honey bee and the environment. Our candles have no additives and no containers just beeswax, a cotton wick and in the case of our tea lights, a metal tab. Beeswax makes up the bulk of our raw materials so this means that almost all of our raw materials are created and sourced from right in Vermont! By sourcing our wax locally we have a very short supply chain which cuts down on pollution from shipping and we can also help support the local economy and directly benefit families that live in our community.

Beeswax is an amazing completely natural, biodegradable material created by honey bees. If it is stored in the right conditions it has an almost indefinite shelf life. Once it does biodegrade there are no negative effects on the environment. The wicks we use are made from cotton, a natural material which is also biodegradable. The metal tabs in the tea lights we make are recyclable and we encourage you to purchase your own candle holders that you can use over and over again.

Our packaging is minimal and shipping materials are reusable or recyclable and always plastic free.

As producers and consumers of things it is important for humans to consider what to do with a product when it reaches the end of it's useful life. While beeswax is biodegradable we don't suggest putting it in a compost pile. Even small bits of wax can be useful. If you bought our tea lights make sure to separate the metal tab from the wax, recycle it and then whatever pieces of wax and wick you have left over you could use as fire starter or you can melt and filter the wax and try your hand at candle making!
